The Kingdom of Alba

This fictional story is taking place in the Scottish Highlands and takes inspiration from breathtaking Scottish nature and history. The tale takes inspiration from the Scottish traditions, symbols, colours, wildlife and Scottish weather playing an important role as well.

I created both the illustrations and the story to reflect on my personal experience while I've been living in Scotland and noticing all unique details that this country has to offer, being interested in its rich history and legends as well as culture and customs. Being able to explore scenic landscapes, while travelling around Scotland, supplied the inspiration for creating those visuals.

The story is taking place in the Kingdom of Alba (Gaelic name for Scotland), with the main character Brea (meaning noble, strong, virtuous hill in Gaelic) meeting a friend representing the ever-present fog on the east coast of England and Scotland, called Haar. They become best friends until Haar gets lost and Brea is trying to find her with the help from the Mary Queen of Scones with her team of friends, including Lord Haggis and Lord Shortbread. They make a plan together, to bring Haar back to Brea. The story ends with a surprising twist, proving that true friendship lasts forever.
